In an Emergency, Dial 911
Telecommunications maintains the system of emergency telephones throughout the campus. This system is made up of courtesy wall phones located inside and outside campus building, phones housed in red and black boxes, phones in elevators, and “blue light” phones on stanchions throughout the campus. In addition, ANY telephone connected to the campus telephone system can be used to make emergency calls.
There are 257 Courtesy or Blue Light phones on the campus of SUNY New Paltz. The courtesy phones are mostly black wall phones that are enabled for on-campus, New Paltz 255 or 256 numbers, or for toll-free numbers.
BLUE LIGHT PHONES (phones with a blue light over them) are considered “emergency” phones and will dial University Police without the caller having to dial a number. To reach University Police, press the red button (see below). These phones also allow on campus dialing. To make an on-campus call, push the black button and dial the four-digit, on-campus number.
