How Do I Get Involved?

General interest meetings take place at the beginning of each semester for most of our Greek organizations. Following these informationals, RUSH begins. RUSH is an opportunity to learn more about the organizations and express your interest in joining. Depending on whether you are interested in Nationals or Locals, the process will differ a bit. Once you have shown interest in an organization, if you are chosen, or given a "bid," you begin the process of New Member Education

New Member Education is the processes in which new members are initiated into the chapter.

According to the college regulations to begin a new member program:

  • Students are to have obtained 12 New Paltz credits.
  • Transfers are eligible during their first semester with a 2.75 GPA.
  • You must have a GPA of 2.5

The umbrella of Greek Life on our campus is the United Greek Association (UGA). The UGA is one of the three major student governance systems on campus (the other two being the Student Association and the Residence Hall Student Association). There exists four sub-governing boards within the UGA, they are the National Pan-Hellenic Council, Inc. (NPHC), the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC), the Latino Greek Council (LGC), and the Associative Greek Council (AGC). The sub-governing boards have a great deal of responsibility. They decide on issues facing Greek Life, hold each other accountable, and formally recognize new Greek organizations on our campus.

The college has a non-hazing policythat is strictly enforced. Before you can begin the New Member Education process, you will have to meet with a representative from the Office of Student Activities and Union Services to review the New Member Education policies
