If You Design it Yourself

(See Preparing a Manuscript in the Design and Graphics section.)

MAKE SURE IT'S PRINTABLE

Originals must be black on white, one side only, and have at least 3/8" margins on all sides. Standard sizes are 812 x 11, 812 x 14, 11 x 17. Smaller sizes should be arranged 2-up or 4-up on a standard size sheet. (e.g. If your final size is 812 x 512, you would have two of these on one 812 x 11 sheet, or four 512 x 414 on one 812 x 11.) If you are uncertain about how to set this up, please call the Design Office.

Bleeds
If you want the image to go to the edge of the sheet ("bleed") you must provide some overage that can be trimmed off, and still provide at least 3/8" margins or blank space around the image area. If you are uncertain about how to set this up, please call the Design Office.

Photos/Screens or halftones
Halftones (photo converted to dot pattern for printing) need to be “high res,” normally 300dpi. For two-color printing, if a screened (shaded) area will have type or some other image over it, separations will be needed. If you are uncertain about how to set this up for the printer please call the Design Office.

[See General Appendix B]

Color
Projects done in more than one color of ink must be marked clearly on the dummy. Separations will be required. Originals that are not properly set up for printing cannot be used. Please call the Design Office if you need help or have any questions.

SUBMIT A PRINT SHOP WORK REQUEST

Use the Printing Work Request form (See Appendix G). Do not staple the form to your originals, or staple originals together, as staple holes leave marks. Likewise, please do not fold your originals, etc.

A "dummy" or mock-up for folding, color, etc., should be included to insure the printer accurately interprets your instructions.
