APPENDIX H – Paper

TYPES

Bond
a grade of paper made from either cotton, chemical wood pulp, or a combination of the two, constructed for strength and durability, commonly used for letterheads, business forms, etc. The term originally applied to cotton-content paper used for printing bonds and legal documents.

Offset
a grade of paper designed for use in offset printing that has high surface strength and does not curl easily, commonly used for the inside pages of booklets, flyers, etc.

Text
a variety of high quality papers that come in a wide range of colors and textures, usually made with a matching or coordinating cover, often used for brochures and pamphlets.

Cover
heavyweight papers that have good folding characteristics, used for covers on booklets and brochures as well as reply cards, posters, folders and pamphlets.

Index
a smooth surfaced cover weight paper used for cards, forms and occasionally covers

NCR
a light paper chemically treated to allow a transfer of impression from one sheet to another, used for forms.

Coated papers processed with a surface coating to produce a very smooth surface. The coating allows for maximum ink holdout (prevents the ink from being absorbed by the paper), and the smooth surface reflects light directly, which allows for better color reproduction than is possible on uncoated papers. They are available in matte, dull, and glossy finishes, and are normally used in full/process color printing.

STANDARD/PRE-CUT SHEET SIZES
