Sharing Your Experience

Welcome back! We hope that your time abroad has been both academically and personally enriching. There are several ways that you can share your experience with other students:

1.  Apply to be a Peer Counselor or Student Ambassador
2.  List your contact information on our Contact a Past Participant page
3.  Join New Paltz Study Abroad in Facebook Groups
3.  Fill out the online study abroad program evaluation form 

Peer Counselor/Student Ambassador Job Description

Friendly, outgoing person who has the ambition to recruit and advise
fellow students interested in our programs.  Candidates should have a positive attitude and be willing to share their experiences from abroad.
 
STUDY ABROAD PEER COUNSELORS will: 

  1. Speak to prospective study abroad students at campus recruitment activities regarding the study abroad experience.  These activities include SUB tabling, study abroad fairs, classroom and student organization presentations, residence hall programs, information nights, etc.
  2. Meet with prospective study abroad students on a walk-in or appointment basis at the Center for International Programs. Will also speak with prospective students over the telephone at the Center for International Programs.
  3. Attend study abroad orientation programs either at the Center for International Programs or on-line to help prepare students for overseas experience.
  4. Prepare prior participant written narrative relating their study abroad experiences and offering advice and recommendations to the student preparing to study abroad.
  5. Assist the Center for International Programs office with reception, mailings, materials preparation, information requests, and general office tasks as needed.

STUDY ABROAD STUDENT AMBASSADORS will: 

     1.  Speak to prospective study abroad students at campus recruitment activities regarding the study abroad experience.  These activities include SUB tabling, study abroad fairs, classroom and student organization presentations, residence hall programs, information nights, etc.

      2.  Meet with prospective study abroad students on a walk-in or appointment basis at the Center for International Programs. Will also speak with prospective students over the telephone at the Center for International Programs.

      3.  Attend study abroad orientation programs either at the Center for International Programs or on-line to help prepare students for overseas experience.

     4.  Prepare prior participant written narrative relating their study abroad experiences and offering advice and recommendations to the student preparing to study abroad.

Each position could be up to 20 hours per week at the current Temporary Service salary rate, depending on employment needs of the Center for International Programs.  You do not need Work Study for this position.  Occasional evening or weekend work may be required.  To apply, please e-mail a cover letter and résumé to studyabroad@newpaltz.edu
