Summer in Brazil-Portuguese Language Studies

Location
Come to life in Rio de Janeiro, the "Marvelous City." It is an
exciting place surrounded by a lush tropical forest and conveniently located by
the Atlantic Ocean. With a rich cultural life, Rio de Janeiro is the perfect
place for those who wish to be immersed in the South American reality. It is an
intriguing center for the arts, theatre, music, exhibitions, street
performances, scientific conferences, and cultural debates. One can find just
about anything in Rio de Janeiro!
Academic
Program
You will study at the Pontifica Universidad Catolica, one of the most
prestigious and respected universities in Rio. The summer program is dedicated
to Portuguese for Foreigners language studies only. The Department of Letters
offers language courses at five levels, from Beginner to Advanced.
A mandatory Portuguese language placement test indicates the appropriate
level for each student. The course consists of 90 hours of instruction. The
objective is to develop the student's ability to understand, speak, read and
write Portuguese in both formal and informal situations.
Credits
Six undergraduate credits may be earned per semester. For further questions

Qualifications
Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors with a minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher.
Housing
Family housing guarantees a true Brazilian experience to the international
student. Most of the host families live near the University. Prices range from
$300-$350 per month for a private bedroom with breakfast. Students pay the host
family directly. Inexpensive city bus lines make it easy to get to campus.
