"Students participating in the New Paltz - Middlesex program have the advantage of experiencing first-hand and at relatively low cost the educational system of a British university. New Paltz has established a comprehensive, well-thought-through oreintation process to inform students about the details of the program. Both institutions seem wholly committed to making the program work."

Study Abroad in Limerick, Ireland

Program Location

Ireland is an island with five million people located in the northwest of the European mainland. It has a temperate maritime climate with pleasant summer temperatures. English is the most widely spoken language. Long renowned for its scholarship, Ireland has a proud tradition of education and serving other nations. Almost half of the Irish people are under the age of 25 and over 65,000 participate in third level education.

Limerick is a thriving modern city, the fourth largest in Ireland. It is the capital of Ireland's Mid West Region. It has a long history that can be traced a thousand years or more. Within a day's excursion are the countries of Galway, Clare, Cork, Tipperary and Kerry. Shannon International Airport, only 16 miles from Limerick, provides daily access to a wide range of international destinations.

The University Of Limerick

The pursuit of excellence in teaching, and research to the highest level, has been the prime mission of the University. It has sought, like other new European universities, to be relevant to the times and to the nation's needs, and educate its students to the highest levels in the application as well as the acquisition of knowledge. The campus is situated at the heart of the National Technological Park on 65f0 acres of parkland on the banks of the River Shannon near Limerick City.

Academic Program

The University of Limerick offers a well established Study Abroad Programme. Visiting students are fully integrated into the student body and follow the same lectures, seminars, and tutorials taking the same assessments as Irish students.
Although Study Abroad students are treated like Irish students they have one special advantage, namely a greater freedom of choice in selecting their programme of study. Students may choose from a wide range of modules in all years and may register across faculties and departments.

Students may enroll in regular university courses in the following faculties:

  • Business
  • Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences
  • Education and Health Sciences
  • Science and Engineering

Students may also enroll in courses in Irish Studies.  Irish Studies is a multidisciplinary programme which provides a comprehensive overview of Irish life and culture. The programme includes Irish language and literature, history, folklore, traditional music, politics, and sociology.
