Study Abroad in Limerick, Ireland Program Location Ireland is an island with five million people located in the northwest of the European mainland. It has a temperate maritime climate with pleasant summer temperatures. English is the most widely spoken language. Long renowned for its scholarship, Ireland has a proud tradition of education and serving other nations. Almost half of the Irish people are under the age of 25 and over 65,000 participate in third level education. Limerick is a thriving modern city, the fourth largest in Ireland. It is the capital of Ireland's Mid West Region. It has a long history that can be traced a thousand years or more. Within a day's excursion are the countries of Galway, Clare, Cork, Tipperary and Kerry. Shannon International Airport, only 16 miles from Limerick, provides daily access to a wide range of international destinations. The University Of Limerick The pursuit of excellence in teaching, and research to the highest level, has been the prime mission of the University. It has sought, like other new European universities, to be relevant to the times and to the nation's needs, and educate its students to the highest levels in the application as well as the acquisition of knowledge. The campus is situated at the heart of the National Technological Park on 65f0 acres of parkland on the banks of the River Shannon near Limerick City. Academic Program The University of Limerick offers a well established Study Abroad Programme. Visiting students are fully integrated into the student body and follow the same lectures, seminars, and tutorials taking the same assessments as Irish students. Students may enroll in regular university courses in the following faculties:
Students may also enroll in courses in Irish Studies. Irish Studies is a multidisciplinary programme which provides a comprehensive overview of Irish life and culture. The programme includes Irish language and literature, history, folklore, traditional music, politics, and sociology. Search the University of Limerick course listings. Credits Students study an average of five three-credit courses per semester. 15 credits may be awarded per semester. Qualifications Students who have successfully completed at least one full-time semester of college level study are eligible to apply. A minimum GPA of 2.9 at the time of application is required for this program. Approximate Program Dates Fall Term: early September - late December Accommodations At the University of Limerick attractive residential villages are provided which are specifically designed for students. Individual study town-houses of 4/6/8 bedrooms have been arranged in landscaped courtyards in an attractive village style.
