The city of Kanazawa is situated in the central part of Honshu, the main island of Japan. It is an old city facing the Sea of Japan . If you look at the map, you will find Kanazawa near the base of the beautiful Noto Peninsula which stretches out into the Sea of Japan. Kanazawa is the main city of the Hokuriku District and is well-known as an ancient castle town. Its population is about 440,000 and is one of the largest cities along the coast of the Sea of Japan. Kanazawa is full of charm which blends its old atmosphere with the new. It is only a one-hour flight from Tokyo with the national railway links to the Shinkansen bullet train at Miabara and Kyoto. It will take you about five hours from Tokyo and about two and a half hours from Kyoto to reach Kanazawa station. You must come to Kanazawa in order to know the real Japan!

Kanazawa University (KUSEP) would like to promote cultural exchange among students from all over the world and its university.

Credits

12-15 undergraduate credits may be earned per semester, five of which must include Japanese language.

Qualifications

The program is only open to SUNY New Paltz students who are sophomores, juniors and seniors at the time of application, with a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher.  Two years of college level Japanese language or the equivalent is also required.

Housing

Students are housed in single rooms at the International House Residence. Utility charges and food expenses are additional. Also, since gas heating is necessary during winter time, gas expenses are greater in this season. Each room is equipped with all the necessary accessories.

Language Of Instruction

Classes at Kanazawa University (KUSEP) are taught in English.
