Extending Your Stay
In order to continue your stay, you must consider the following points:
- Will your graduation be postponed by extending your stay?
- Are classes you are taking abroad applicable toward your major, minor, or general education requirements?
- A longer stay may affect your visa status, so check with your host university and the host country consular offices.
- Please consider the fact that there may be a considerable lapse of time between semesters, and the overseas university may not have dormitory space available. In this case, you will need to make alternate accommodations during the break at your own expense. Please consult the overseas university about the accommodations available.
- If you are a New Paltz student extending your stay on one of our exchange programs please be aware that your exchange status will change to study abroad for the next semester and therefore
program fees will increase. Please contact us for clarification.
- If you are a New Paltz student extending your stay on a Non-New Paltz program, please be sure to contact the Sponsoring US program and overseas university on the logistics of your stay.
To Extend Your Stay:
You must receive written approval from:
- Your host university abroad
- SUNY New Paltz Center for International Programs
- Your academic advisors
- Non-New Paltz students must also get written approval from their home campus study abroad office
