"Students participating in the New Paltz - Middlesex program have the advantage of experiencing first-hand and at relatively low cost the educational system of a British university. New Paltz has established a comprehensive, well-thought-through oreintation process to inform students about the details of the program. Both institutions seem wholly committed to making the program work."

What You Need to Know About The Process

1.  Your reply form and non-refundable administrative fee are due within two weeks of the date on your acceptance letter.  Failure to return these within the time limit may prevent your participation in the study abroad program.

2.  Your acceptance packet will contain forms from the host university.  These forms are also due within two weeks of the date on your acceptance letter. Failure to return these within the time limit may prevent your participation in the study abroad program.  The packet will also include visa and travel information.

3.  Be sure to write your birthdate as requested on international forms, which is usually day/month/year.  If in doubt write out your birthday, for example: January 10, 1980.

4.  Do not plan to travel before your departure abroad.  For most countries the visa process must be completed just before departure and in-person.

5.  Be patient.  Study abroad is taking two completely different educational systems and having them work together.  There is a lot of paperwork from both New Paltz and the host institution.
There is also a cultural difference  with regards to time.  Americans want everything right now, but the rest of the world doesn't function the same way.  You will get things when you need them, not necessarily when you want them.

6.  Please carefully read all the materials outlined in your acceptance packet.
     A.   Semester/Academic Year Overseas Academic Programs Handbook

     B.   Summer/Intersession  Overseas Academic Programs Handbook

AND

     C.  General Orientation Handbook

7.  Return required forms promptly.  Late submissions will cause problems with the entire study abroad application process.  Keep copies of all completed forms.
