Hello! My name is Kristina, and I am a graduate student in the MA English program at SUNY New Paltz. I am from New Paltz, though I completed my undergraduate studies at SUNY Oneonta; I graduated in 2014 with a dual BA in Psychology and English. I joined the CSS in January 2016 as a Writing Consultant, which has been a very rewarding experience for me because I plan to teach English at the secondary level (grades 7-12). In terms of specific literary interests, I enjoy early modern English literature (specifically Shakespeare) as well as science fiction and fantasy. In addition to working for the CSS and going to school, I work off campus, but I still find time to enjoy a nice cup of herbal tea now and then!
Hey, my name’s Patrick. My preferred pronouns are he/him/his. I am a peer Writing Consultant of the Writers’ Studio in the Center for Student Success. I am an alumnus of Orange County Community College in Middletown, New York. I graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Visual Communications in December 2014. I am currently an undergraduate student in the English program at SUNY New Paltz and I will be receiving my Bachelor’s Degree in Spring 2018. After earning my Bachelor’s Degree, I will be furthering my education to work toward earning my Master’s in order to pursue a career as a Creative Writing professor. I chose to become a tutor because the experience will help me improve on offering peer-to-peer support by exploring different pedagogical approaches to assisting students with their academic needs. I am also an independent writer. I began writing poetry in the 11th grade. I write poetry, short stories, fiction, and creative nonfiction essays.
Hi! I’m Meghan, and I’m in my final year of the M.A. English program. I became a tutor so that I could utilize my writing skills to contribute to my academic community. Currently, I tutor at the Writers’ Studio. My other interests include writing, literature, music, and art.
Hi I'm Rachel! I'm in the SUNY New Paltz class of '19 and currently majoring in English Secondary Education with a minor in Religious Studies. I'm a Writing Consultant for the Writers’ Studio on campus! I came into this position with a passion for helping people where they struggle and excitement for seeing fellow students succeed. When I'm not tutoring I'm either in the TBA Improv Comedy Troop, writing, reading, or playing guitar. If you see me on campus don't be shy, say hi!
Hi, my name is Austin, and I'm a Junior at SUNY New Paltz. I joined the English program here as soon as I was able to do so, and have always loved English and writing in general. I became a Writing Consultant to hopefully help students strengthen their writing practice, and develop their writing skills. I look forward to seeing you in the Center for Student Success!
P.S. Bring your favorite pen!
Hello! My name is Kimberly (she/her/hers). I am a senior majoring in Sociology with a concentration in Human Services and minoring in Black Studies. I became a writing consultant with the intention of combining my two passions of writing and working with others! I love the exchange of working with other students because it provides the opportunity for a mutual learning experience. In my free time I enjoy hiking, weightlifting, photography and filmmaking. My ultimate career goal is to work for the United Nations. I look forward to meeting and working with you at the Center for Student Success!
Hey, my name is Mireya (she/her/hers). I have a major in biology and a minor in philosophy and if all goes well, I will be graduating Fall 2018. I chose to be a peer writing consultant in the Writers’ Studio because I believe there is power in the written word and I want to help people to discover their own style and flow. Whether you are writing an essay or a poem, it is always a journey that requires care and guidance, which I hope I can provide to someone. When I have time to myself, I enjoy learning about the veterinary world, as I hope to become a veterinarian in the future. Apart from that, I really enjoy listening to music, dancing, and spending time with friends.
Hi! My name is Shannon. I'm a marketing and management major going into my junior year. This will be my second year at the CSS as a Peer Writing Consultant and I'm excited to be a part of the team again. My favorite part of working at the Center is meeting new people and working with them to better their writing. When I see improvement it makes me as thrilled as the student! In the future I aspire to work for a social media company in New York City.
Greetings! My name is Shrien (she/her/hers) and I am a junior, pursuing a double major in English and Digital Media production with a minor in sociology. I am a Peer Writing Consultant at the Center for Student Success. I joined the CSS because I love being an advocate for those around me, even if what I have to offer is small. I believe that with a friendly, fun approach, education and learning can be a positive experience. It takes time, patience, and most importantly a good mentor to lead you down the right path! I hope I can be that mentor for other students. In my spare time, I love to write, read, buy more books that I don't need, photograph strangers and watch documentaries. I hope to one day be working as an educator or at a nonprofit organization.
Hello! My name is Nicole (she/her/hers, they/them/theirs). I am currently entering my third year here at SUNY New Paltz which makes me a junior. My major is English and I have a minor in art studio. My position at the Center for Student Success is as a peer writing consultant. I am here to help you understand the art of writing. I want to help you gain the tools and awareness to create your writing skills and style. I chose to join the CSS because I want to teach and see the positive impact that could be made on the New Paltz campus. I love feeling like the world could be a better place if we just extended our compassion and understanding enough to teach each other and learn from one another. I just came back from studying abroad in Prague for five months. I traveled so much it blew my mind. My life this past Spring consisted of culture to the extreme. I taught at a high school in Prague and that only solidified my desire to be a teacher after I graduate. I hope to see you come down to the CSS if you have the slightest curiosity in it because you will gain so much from it. Let's have a great semester together!
Hey, I’m Matt (he/him/his). I’m a senior and a journalism major, but I plan on adding a public relations major and minor in creative writing. I’ve worked as a peer writing consultant before, so I’m excited to return to the field here at New Paltz! My goal is to help students create strong writing in their own voice, and the best part of this job is watching someone start to find pride in their work. I’m best with creating organization and versatility, but I don’t think anything is too big or small to address. When I’m not in the Center or doing schoolwork, I enjoy stories in every form, whether they’re movies or literature or anime or even video games. I also like cooking, gardening, designing, and learning new skills. Good luck this semester, and if you want to strengthen your writing, feel free to stop by!
Hi Everyone! My name is Emily and I am so excited to be joining the Writers’ Studio staff this semester. I am currently a senior in the Communication Disorders program here at New Paltz with a minor in Deaf Studies. I decided to become a writing consultant to help our students succeed academically and really make their voices heard on campus. My interests include hiking, cooking, and re-reading the same books over and over again. If you see me on campus, don't hesitate to say hi! I look forward to meeting you all this semester.
Hello! Welcome to the Center for Student Success! I am Sara (They/Them/Theirs) and I'm a first semester sophomore here at SUNY New Paltz. I'm double majoring in English with a concentration in Creative Writing, and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, with a minor in Political Science. I'm so excited to join the CSS as a peer writing consultant for Fall 2017. I love reading and writing, (which you can probably guess from my majors!) and I'm looking forward to learning more about writing through working with people who are also looking to improve their skills. This will especially help me as I forge my career path in publishing (while of course continuing to write in my free time!)
I'm Sara V! I'm currently in my second year of the English MA program at SUNY New Paltz. I enjoy reading, writing and doing yoga in my free time. Given my continuous passion for the written word, I am happy to be a writing consultant at the Center for Student Success.
