What is the FYI Program?
The FYI Program is a living/learning community also known as "The First-Year Initiative." Freshmen nationwide are choosing this popular arrangement for their first year away at school. FYI blends the opportunity to live in a residence hall with other students who are also starting college, and take two courses in common during each semester of your first year.
What do students say about FYI?
Students who have gone through FYI say they loved it because. . .
"FYI is cool, I see and meet a lot of people"
"It made it easier to become adjusted"
"I enjoyed living with my classmates"
"As a first year college student, it's nice to be with people our age, going through the same things"
"I feel more comfortable with my professors"
FYI benefits include:
- Living with other new students who are your classmates in some courses
- Developing a special rapport with instructors and other students
- Availability of informal study groups without leaving your residence hall
- Having a peer advisor, known as a "Resident Mentor", right in your hall
- Conveniently located evening workshops facilitated by faculty and staff
- Maximized development of effective academic skills
- A one-day field trip to the university's Outdoor Education Center
- Needing to only choose a few courses to round out your class schedule
- Lasting friendships!
