Student Honors and Awards
Graduating with a sociology degree, by itself, is a significant accomplishment about which all of our students can be proud. Some students go beyond meeting our rigorous degree requirements and the Sociology Department recognizes those outstanding achievements with additional honors. Any student with a grade point average of 3.2 or higher graduates with Sociology Honors and is eligible to join Alpha Kappa Delta (AKD), the International Sociology Honors Society. Applications for AKD can be obtained from the Sociology office.
Each fall and spring the department also issues Outstanding Student Awards to our top graduates for their excellent academic performance and for representing the highest ideals of our discipline. These honorees represent the department at the President’s awards ceremony. Honorees are also recognized at the annual Sociology party and awards ceremony held each May.
