The ‘Who Done It?’
11/16/2010
The ‘Who Done It?’ in the middle school science enrichment program generated enthusiasm and dedicated sleuthing when our youngsters tried to figure out who stole the cookie dough that we were going to use to bake cookies to raise money for the club! What a day! Why does it matter? SUNY New Paltz pre-service teachers experience informal gatherings with middle school students from around the area in an attempt to see how they work at solving problems, overcome challenges and create creative ways to design methods to test hypotheses. This posting relates to a forensic lesson whereby middle school students figured out who the bandit was by measuring footprints and teeth marks, taking footprints and fingerprints to compare to possible suspects, and identification of a white powder found at the scene and on the suspects.
My what large feet you have? Is that a relative phrase?
Reconstructing the crime scene appears to be a significantly important method for analyzing what happened.
Well, this one is not the culprit!
Okay, now that we have identified the powder found at the scene of the crime, what are our choices, and how do we test for the answers?
I think it had to be Dr. Ro. Look at her sinister smile and the way she directs us to look at the evidence. It must be her!!!
