Secondary Education for Science & Math Story

Secondary Education Science and Mathematics Programs

09/08/2009

We’re back! Starting off the new academic year with classes in problem solving, curriculum and assessment and teaching in secondary schools, the secondary science and mathematics education students are reconnecting with the classrooms on campus. We have six student teachers out in the schools this fall with projected student teacher numbers at 30 for the spring of 2010.

The programs offered by the Secondary Education Department for undergraduate science and mathematics students include grades 7-12 teaching certifications in

  • Earth Science
  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Physics
  • Mathematics

Groups of graduate students work out problems that create higher order thinking for our middle and high school students.

Graduate programs offered in the Secondary Education Department for a MAT or MSED is limited to Biology at this time.

They are pretty sure that the only way to figure out just how large a crater on the Moon really is requires a quick trip to our only natural satellite.

I object to objectives!!! Isn’t there an easier way to find out what you want students to learn?

Special programs are offered on occasion to provide pre-service teachers with the opportunity to work with Middle School students in our ‘Middle School Science and Mathematics Enrichment’ class where practicing teachers get to work in small student groups to conduct inquiry investigations and problem solving.

Join us for an exciting future working with the youth in our schools!
