Department of Secondary Education

Program Overview

The Teaching English Language Learners Advanced Certificate Program offers just the right balance of content knowledge, current research, personal reflection, and hands-on practice to help you work more effectively with English language learners in and outside the U.S.  You will learn innovative teaching strategies, course and materials development, and theories of language learning.  You also will explore school successes and challenges in other countries.  Track 1 students (certified teachers) will conduct a classroom-based study.  Track 2 students (college graduates seeking to teach abroad) will work with English language learners in a practicum with Ulster Literacy Association (Track 2 students).

You will study with top-notch faculty in the School of Education and likely will interact with classmates from many parts of the world – recent college graduates seeking to teach abroad as well as practicing teachers seeking to work more effectively with English language learners.
