These courses provide a theoretical and practical foundation for understanding second-language learning.

EED581 - Foundations of Bilingual/Bicultural Education (3 credits)
SED577 - Applied Linguistics for ESL Teachers (3 credits)
SED573 - Teaching English as a Second Language  (3 credits; includes fieldwork requirement)

Track 1: For certified teachers

SED 701 - Inquiry into Teaching, Learning, & School I (3 credits)

SED 702 - Inquiry into Teaching, Learning, & School II (3 credits)
In these linked courses, taken as fall-spring sequence, you will conduct a classroom- or school-based study focused on English language learners. 
If you have already completed this inquiry course sequence, you will choose two 3-credit courses from the Track 2 requirements and electives.

Track 2: For college graduates
(10 credits)

SED 566 - Education Across Borders: International Ideas & Experiences (3 credits)

SED 575 - Teaching Reading & Writing in English as a Second Language (3 credits)

SED551 - Field Work 1 (1 credit): Ulster Literacy Association practicum

Also, choose one of these electives:

EDS 537 - Issues in Multicultural Education (3 credits)

SED 576 - Teaching English as a Second Language II: Teaching English through the Content Areas (3 credits)

SED578 - Second Language Learning (3 credits)

SPE 572 - Teaching Students from Culturally & Linguistically Diverse Backgrounds (3 credits)
