SUNY New Paltz professor Dr. Napatsorn Jiraporn receives Distinguished Dissertation Award

NEW PALTZ - Dr. Napatsorn Jiraporn, assistant professor of marketing at the State University of New York at New Paltz, received the 2012 Distinguished Dissertation Award in the social sciences category from Binghamton University, where she completed her Ph.D. program.

A faculty review panel selected Jiraporn’s dissertation, “Maintenance Versus Attainment Goals: Influence of Self-Regulation Goal Type on Goal Pursuit Behaviors,” for this award using the following criteria: the level of creativity and originality of the work; the methodological and substantive quality of the research; and the degree to which the research makes a significant contribution to the discipline.

Dr. Hadi Salavitabar, dean of the School of Business at SUNY New Paltz, said, “I am very delighted about Dr. Jiraporn’s accomplishment. She has been simply outstanding in every aspect of her professional activities since the first day she joined our college.”

Jiraporn started her career at New Paltz in August 2011. She received her doctorate degree in marketing from Binghamton University; a master’s degree in business administration-marketing from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University; and a bachelor of business administration in international business management from Chulalongkorn University in Thailand. Her research interests include goal maintenance, self-construal, temporal mental simulation, construal level, self-regulation, judgment and decision making, framing strategies, branding strategies, network externality, consumer spending and food consumption. She has previous experience working as a product planner with Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. in Thailand.
