BAC Advisory Council Chairman Tom Sipos is the founder and host of Hudson Valley Focus. Tom began Hudson Valley Focus as a weekly radio talk show in 1995. To date he has produced over 700 shows that showcase the people, health care systems, the arts, the regional economy, economic development, education, politics, not-for-profits and the environment. These are the great people and organizations that form the Eco-system of the Hudson Valley Region. Hudson Valley Focus continues to be a radio talk show. Additionally it has now transitioned and transformed itself from being a passive observer and reporter to an active force whose mission is; To Dramatically Improve the Health and Vitality of the Hudson Valley Region’s Economy.
For nearly four decades, Mr. Sipos was the co-owner and Vice President of Sipos Insurance. Sipos Insurance served the Mid-Hudson area since its founding in 1950 by Stephen Sipos, Sr. The business was sold and, following the transition of the accounts to the new owner, Tom left to pursue other interests. Mr. Sipos graduated from Arlington High School, attended Dutchess Community College and graduated from the Hill School of Insurance. He is a military veteran and served in the US Army. During his successful career, Mr. Sipos was a licensed NYS Insurance agent and broker for Life, Health, Property and Casualty Insurance and was accredited by the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors (CIC).
Mr. Sipos is an active member of the Hudson Valley community lending his time to a variety of non-profit organizations including: T/O Pleasant Valley Planning Board, Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce, Founder and Chairman of The Dutchess Alliance for Human Needs 1993 to 1997, Dutchess County Arts Council board member and Arts Fund Chairman in 1999 and again in 2009, Dutchess County Economic Development Corporation (DCEDC) Board from 1993 to 2007, DCEDC Board Chairman 1999 and 2000, Dutchess County Workforce Investment Board 2000 to present and Board Chairman 2005 to 2007, SUNY New Paltz School of Business Advisory Council 2000 to present where he has served on the Technology Committee, Chairman of the Ethics Committee, Chairman of the Faculty & Program Committee, 1st Vice Chairman and now Chairman.
Mr. Sipos was awarded the 1994 DCARC Bessie Payne Humanitarian of the Year Award. In 1998, he received the New Horizons Community Leadership Award, in 1999 the Poughkeepsie Area Chamber of Commerce Distinguished Service Award, in 2001 the DCEDC Distinguished Service Award, in 2006 the Business Person of the Year Award from the SUNY New Paltz School of Business and in 2007 the Leadership Award from the Dutchess County Workforce Investment Board.
A lifelong resident of Dutchess County, Mr. Sipos and his wife JoAnn Feigenheimer, reside in Pleasant Valley and they have two adult daughters and a granddaughter.
