The State University of New York at New Paltz is delighted to announce the
2017 School of Business Hall of Fame inductees:
Business Person of the Year: Laurence Gottlieb
Larry Gottlieb joined the Hudson Valley Economic Development Corporation (HVEDC) as president and CEO in 2013. He brought with him more than 25 years of experience as a business advisor working with executives and government leaders, which he has applied wholeheartedly to the HVEDC’s mission of supporting businesses in a variety of sectors, including technology, food and beverage, healthcare and tourism.
Dean’s Award of Excellence: C. Edward Burke, Jr., ’90 (Finance)
Ed Burke is a School of Business alumnus and a Managing Principal at The Hudson Valley Financial Group with Wells Fargo Advisors Financial Network in Highland, NY. He has been providing financial advice to his clients for the past 20 years. Prior to joining the financial services industry, he owned several businesses in New Paltz which he was actively involved in all facets of day to day management and operation. He currently serves as Chairman of the Business Advisory Council at SUNY as well as the Town of New Paltz Zoning Board of Appeals. Ed has lived in New Paltz for the past 28 years with his wife Jill Tournour-Burke (‘92) and their 3 boys CJ, Corey, & Casey.
Alumna of the Year: Irene Berner, ’11 (Finance)
Irene Berner is the founder of Berner Financial Services, a New Paltz-based wealth management services company through that gives Berner the opportunity to apply her passion for educating and empowering women to take control of their financial lives. She actively engages in the community through involvement with organizations including regional Chambers of Commerce, the New Paltz Rotary Club and the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail Association, and has remained close to the College since her 2011 graduation as a member of the Business Advisory Council and a former judge of the annual Business Plan Contest.
Student Leader of the Year: Roy Linam, ’17 (Management, Finance)
Roy Linam was born and raised in East Elmhurst, Queens, N.Y. who is using his time at SUNY New Paltz to develop his talents as an entrepreneur, investor, public speaker and peer mentor. He is founder and sitting president of the (soon-to-be official) New Paltz Toastmasters International chapter, a teaching assistant in the School of Business, a student ambassador for the College, a Business Plan Contest winner and a comic book fanatic. During his time at New Paltz, Linam also found time to prepare for career through employment at New York City-based startup Trade It, and recently co-founded an innovated ecommerce platform called SupplyMyStyle.
