Hall of Fame

The School of Business is a place where achievement is recognized, rewarded, and encouraged. To this end, the School of Business Hall of Fame was established in 2001 to recognize and acknowledge the achievements of those who have made significant contributions to their respective business professions.

The School of Business inducted its first members in May of 2002. Each year, the school will recognize four inductees for their achievements and service.

Mission
The Hall of Fame of the School of Business serves as a place where achievement is recognized, rewarded, and encouraged for those who have made significant contributions to their respective business professions and also a significant positive impact on the educational activities of the School of Business. (However the latter is a requirement for the Dean's Award of Excellence nominees or inductees.)

The Hall of Fame also serves as another avenue for businesses and alumni to support the School, possibly leading to the expansion of resources beyond the limited ones provided by the State.

Awards
Inductees will be nominated for one of the following categories:

  • Business Person of the Year
  • Alumni of the Year
  • Student Leader of the Year (from the School of Business)
  • Dean's Award of Excellence

The Business Person of the year may also be an alumnus, but can only receive one award. The Board would have to decide which award to bestow on the nominee. Currently SUNY New Paltz employed faculty, staff, and administrators are not qualified.

Nominations
Any one who can adequately provide the required information for a nomination can submit one to the Dean. Since we encourage nominations of individuals who have had a significant impact on the educational activities of the School of Business, the people most likely to know and understand that would be School administrators, faculty, students, alumni, Business Advisory Council members and members of University community.

The following is criteria for Inductees to the Hall of Fame, which is consistent with the mission of the School of Business.

  • Candidates should have demonstrated or currently demonstrate excellence, entrepreneurial acumen or significant contributions in their profession.
  • Excellence should be measured by the success of the candidate's business, if privately owned, by his/her rank in his/her organizational structure, and by his/her contributions in giving back something to the business/business student community
  • A significant positive impact on the educational activities of the School of Business is desirable. This is a requirement for the Dean's Award of Excellence inductee.
  • Candidate must exhibit what would be considered excellent professional ethics.

All nominees, except those for the Dean's Award of Excellence, are not necessarily required to have had a direct positive impact on the educational activities of the School of Business, however it is acknowledged that this is an exceptionally desirous criteria.
