Frequently Asked Questions

1. Are we accreditated?
The University is fully accreditated by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools and is approved as a degree-granting institution by the Trustees of the State University of New York and the Regents of New York State.

2.  Where are we in the AACSB International accreditation process?
SUNY New Paltz School of Business is a member of AACSB International - the Association of Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. The School of Business is on target to achieve AACSB International accreditation, the highest standard for business schools, in four years. Our accreditation plan was approved by AACSB, which indicates that if we execute what we said in the plan, AACSB thought that we shall be accredited. This is a seven year process and we just finished the third year. The process has brought many changes and initiatives to further improve our program and this continuous improvement process will continue even after we are accredited.

3. How do I apply?
SUNY New Paltz participates in the SUNY Common Application program for undergraduate admissions. Undergraduate applications are available in all New York State high school guidance offices and if applying by mail, the application fee is $40.00 per SUNY School. Applications for admission to the MBA program are processed directly through the School of Business and then the Graduate School. MBA applications can be downloaded off the MBA Web site and applicants are advised to take the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT). There is a nonrefundable $50.00 graduate application fee.

SUNY New Paltz accepts many transfers to its undergraduate programs. Many come with completed associates degrees while others come from four-year schools with an assortment of credits. Students must complete an undergraduate admissions application and note that you are a transfer student and include official copies of transcripts from all schools attended.

If transferring from one of our nearby community colleges, please view our transfer articulation tables. For more details about overall transfer issues, view information on our Undergraduate Admissions site.

6. How do I find the prerequisites to a course?
Prerequisites can be found at the end of each course description.

7. What does my GPA have to be to make it on the Dean's list?
Undergraduate students who obtain a GPA of 3.33 or higher, and MBA students who have a GPA of 3.8 or higher will be on the Dean's list. For more specific information, view the Undergraduate Catalog.

8. When does registration start?
Registration times differ for matriculated and non-matriculated students. Only matriculated students are allowed to participate in advanced registration. Times of registration are assigned to students based on the number of credits each student has completed. Students nearing degree completion will register first so they can be ensured a space in a course to enable them to graduate on time. As an extra service to our students, the School of Business begins early registration one week earlier than the campus-advanced registration. These times are noted in the School of Business Building and can also be found by calling the main office at 845-257-2930.

Summer and fall registration typically takes place in early April and registration for spring takes place in November.

For campus-wide dates, please view the academic calendar.

9. When are finals?
A specific final exam schedule exists each semester for all University courses and it can be viewed on the University Web site. Students should always confirm with their instructor where and when their final exam will take place.
