School hosts networking events

Alumni Networking Events

Alumni networkingIn total, over 180 alumni, students and business leaders attended the School of Business alumni networking events in March and September.


Accounting & Finance Career Symposium

Accounting and Finance SymposiumAbout 75 students and employers representing companies, such as PricewaterhouseCoopers, The Bank of Tokyo, Vanacore, DeBenedictus, DiGovanni & Weddell, and Ulster Savings Bank, attended this evening of networking on October 19. Joseph Fabian '08, New Paltz alumnus and Financial Advisor, Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor at Merrill Lynch/Global Wealth Management, was the keynote speaker.

Mr. Fabian said "I was honored to be the keynote speaker and hope that I was able to provide some perspective. While in school, the idea of beginning a career is often daunting, but I think that alumni coming back to share their experience makes the future seem navigable. Speaking to current students is a great way to give back to the School."

American Marketing Association Business Day

The American Marketing Association (AMA) held its 16th Annual Business Day Conference in October. The conference attracted over 150 students from New Paltz, as well as surrounding colleges. The conference included a keynote address from Forrest Leighton '98, an alumnus and Director of Product Marketing for Canon, USA, Inc., and a variety of workshops.

American Marketing Association Bus DayLeighton spoke about marketing at Canon, U.S.A., as well as how valuable his experiences at New Paltz and as a member of AMA proved throughout his career. "I considered it an honor to be asked to deliver the keynote address and was very excited to do something for a school that did so much for me," said Leighton. "Interacting with the students was the highlight. Seeing their passion and eagerness to learn and succeed was inspiring," said Leighton.

Tax Practitioner Institute

Over 60 local accountants and enrolled agents in total attended the School's Tax Practitioner Institutes (TPI) in June and December. These workshop provided participants with CPE credits. Representatives from the IRS and NYS Department of Taxation & Finance presented information on timely tax topics. The program was very well received.
