Undergraduate Student Research > Opportunities

The Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creative Activities program enables opportunities for students to participate in discipline specific activities that lead to the production of new knowledge or works. Students should participate in independent thinking and gain hands-on experience under the direct guidance of a faculty mentor. For an idea of the types of projects pursued in the past, please see the Student Research Symposium page.

Funding for student research and scholarship is available through the Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) program. Academic Year funding is available for undergraduate research, scholarship and creative activities through the AYURE program. Students who are interested in participating in either of these programs should consult with a faculty member and or a member of the RSCA advisory board.

Students who have participated in either of these programs are eligible to apply for an Undergraduate Research Experience Travel Award (URETA). This award supports attendance at a professional conference or performance to present the results of the faculty-mentored student research. Download the *URETA instructions and application (fillable pdf) and the required Travel Requisition form. Download the Statement of Automobile Travel (Word) to complete after your travel. This form is only required if an automobile was used.

*The URETA application can now be submitted in hard copy or electronically with pdf's of supporting documentation (abstract, acceptance, etc.).  Please note that a travel requisition must be handed in separately with an original signature.

The Student Travel Award (STA) award is available to all undergraduate students (who have NOT been granted a SURE or AYURE award) to present faculty-mentored research results at a professional academic conference or performance. Attendance at a professional conference will build on the faculty mentored research experience by enabling the student to participate in a professional environment of sharing knowledge and creative projects. Students should consult with a faculty mentor to determine if an appropriate conference is available. Download the STA instructions and application (Word) and the required Travel Requisition form. Download the Statement of Automobile Travel (Word) to complete after your travel. This form is only required if an automobile was used.

For students who would like to pursue off campus research opportunities, we suggest the following resources.
