The Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creative Activities program enables opportunities for students to participate in discipline specific activities that lead to the production of new knowledge or works. Students should participate in independent thinking and gain hands-on experience under the direct guidance of a faculty mentor. For an idea of the types of projects pursued in the past, please see the Student Research Symposium page.
Funding for student research and scholarship is available through the Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) program. Academic Year funding is available for undergraduate research, scholarship and creative activities through the AYURE program. Students who are interested in participating in either of these programs should consult with a faculty member and or a member of the RSCA advisory board.
SUNY New Paltz was recently awarded a Merck/American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) 2009 Undergraduate Science Research Program Award. This award provides a $2,900 summer stipend for each of the 4 students chosen for the award. The student will work full-time on a project at the interface of biology and chemistry under the supervision of 2 faculty mentors. Interested students should complete and application (available by clicking here: Merck/AAAS application). Detailed project descriptions are available by clicking here: Merck/AAAS project descriptions.
Students who have participated in either of these programs are eligible to apply for a Student Travel Award. This award supports attendance at a professional conference or performance to present the results of the faculty-mentored student research. Download the Student Travel Award instructions and application (Word) and the required Travel Requisition form. Download the Statement of Automobile Travel (Word) to complete after your travel. This form is only required if an automobile was used.
