Intramural FAQ's

Team Sports

Q: How do I get on a team?

A: The easiest way is to form your own team. Whether it's friends, suitemates, roommates, classmates, etc., you can submit your own team entry form. These forms can be found online under the FORMS SECTION or from the Intramural Office Elting 206.

Q: What if I don't know anybody or can't find enough people to complete a roster?

A: You can be declared a 'free agent'. Go the FREE AGENT SECTION of the Web site and follow the instructions to become a free agent. If we have enough free agents to constitute a team, we will register them as such. If not, we can add you to rosters that are short of the limit for that sport.

Q: How do I register my team?

A: Once the roster is complete with names, e-mail addresses, genders, year in school, and the last six digits of their banner, submit it to the Intramural Office, Elting 206 or REGISTER ONLINE by going to the register online section of the Web site. Make sure a captain is designated, team has a name, and all eligibility requirements are followed. Make sure your roster is turned in before the deadline. Once schedules are made, rosters will not be accepted.

Q: Who is eligible to play in Intramurals?

A: All registered students paying the Student Activity Fee may participate along with current faculty and staff.

Q: What are the Captains' Meetings?

A: These meetings are held to review rules and distribute schedules. It is mandatory that each team be represented. If the captain is unable to attend, someone else from that team must attend.

Q: What is the forfeit fee?

A: The mandatory $25/team forfeit fee is a deposit against your team to cover forfeits and scrimmage vests. If you never forfeit and return all the scrimmage vests after each contest, the money is returned at the completion of the playoffs.

Q: When are contests held?

A: Competition will take place from 3PM to 7PM Monday to Thursday and Saturday or Sunday from 10AM to 6PM for Outdoor Sports. Indoor Sports competitions take place from 7PM to 11PM Sunday to Thursday. The team captain will be asked to give the Coordinator of Intramurals his or her team's 3 best days and the Coordinator of Intramurals will try to accommodate these requests. However, during playoffs most likely you will not be played on the same day as you did during the regular season.

Q: Where can I get Intramural information?

A: Intramural information is available in each residence hall, the Wellness & Recreation Web site, the Oracle, IM flyers, Dining Halls, and the IM board in Elting Gymnasium and the AWC.

Individual Sports

These include tennis, racquetball, badminton, golf, and skills challenges like free throw shooting, Turkey Trot, and bench press competitions.

Q: How do I sign up?

A: You can simply register in the Intramural Office Elting 206 or Register ONLINE during designated registration period for each event. The other option is to e-mail deckj@newpaltz.edu to be put on a list so individuals can contact one another to schedule recreational competitions before tournaments are formed.

Q: What is the format?

A: For the racquet sports, it's a round robin tournament where you compete against the other entrants at mutually agreed times reporting your scores to the Intramural Office Elting 206. Other activities will have one common time where everyone shows up together.

Q: What if I don't have any equipment?

A: You can check out anything you need at the front desk of the Athletic and Wellness Center by presenting your I.D. card.
