The State University of New York at New Paltz held a grand opening ceremony Tuesday,
March 28, 2006 to officially open the college's new
57,000 square-foot Athletic and Wellness Center.
The new Athletic and Wellness Center is connected
to Elting Gymnasium. Activity
spaces within the new building include two cardiovascular
and weight training fitness centers at the west and
east ends. The 3,300-square ft. East Fitness Curve contains
four Power Lift Combo Racks, a complete Cybex Eagle
Circuit, a functional training station and array
of cardiovascular
machines. The East Curve
includes 15 cardiovascular machines, Precor treadmills,
elliptical trainers, exercise cycles, Cybex Arc Trainers,
and an SCIFIT upper body
ergometer machine.
The 3,500-square ft. West
Fitness Curve contains
21 cardio machines for a total of 36, including
Precor
and
Cybex models. It also contains a free weight area
and three Cybex
modular stations. It also includes a stretching
area, medicine balls, core training machines and
other
free weight stations. There are ten 40-inch LCD
TV screens surrounding this
state-of-the art equipment. The AWC also contains
a new varsity gymnasium used for team practice and
competition
for volleyball
and basketball.

These two areas are connected with an elevated, window-lined 1/9th-mile walking/jogging
track that encircles a premium, competition wood gym
floor.
