Sample Course Programs

As soon as you matriculate at SUNY-NP, you must begin to take the required science courses for entrance to professional school. It is most important that you prepare for your national standardized entrance exam (e.g., the MCAT) during this time as well.

Depending on your major, there are several academic schedules that will allow you finish all the required (and recommended) courses before admission applications are due and before you take the entrance exam (generally in the spring or summer -- at the latest -- of your Junior year). The following schedules block out your first three years and would allow you to be prepared for your entrance exam by the end of the junior year regardless of your major here at New Paltz. You would finish your GE and other major requirements during your senior year. (If you enter with AP or transfer credits, you will modify your schedule appropriately). Remember, you are competing for a seat in class with every other Pre-health and science major at the college - be sure to register at the earliest appointment time assigned to you by the registrar. (A seat in class is not guaranteed and timely completion of these courses assume no course scheduling conflicts.) There is considerable flexibility, however, so don't panic if you don't get your ideal schedule. Make an appointment to speak to the Pre-health advisor for advice and further discussion. (NOTE: Genetics is a pre-requisite for upper level Biology courses.)
