Political Science and International Relations Club
Students interested in politics have maintained an active Political
Science and International Relations Club, recognized as a student organization
on campus within the SUNY New Paltz Student Association. This club elects
officers, has its own budget from the SA, and meets weekly. Its activities
include sponsoring discussions with faculty on topics of scholarly interest,
working with faculty to bring in outside speakers, sponsoring candidate
debates on campus during campaign seasons, and planning off-campus trips
to such sites as the New York State Legislature in Albany, the United
Nations in New York City, or the annual 3-day trip to Washington, DC.
Since 1997, the club has used the DC trip to meet with congressional
and presidential aides, Supreme Court justices, White House reporters,
and public interest groups, and it has attended oral argument at the
Supreme Court.
