Attempted Rape

The New Paltz Police Department is investigating an attempted forcible rape that occurred in New Paltz earlier today.
At approximately 3:25am this morning, the New Paltz Police Department responded to a 911 call for a reported attempted rape. Through investigation, members learned that the victim, a 21-year-old SUNY New Paltz student, was picked up on Main Street by an unknown male suspect. The suspect drove the victim to a field off of Springtown Road, just west of the Wallkill River, where he attempted to forcibly rape her. His actions were stopped by a passing motorist who observed the victim and suspect and stopped to inquire.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic male 5'10" to 6'00" tall, medium build, short black hair. He was last seen leaving the area in a Ford Explorer Sport Track, color red, heading northbound on Springtown Road.
