June 25 - July 1, 2009
Join us Thursday evening for a new "On Campus" show. Host Abigail Robin of the English Department welcomes retired SUNY New Paltz administrator Ed Bell.
Ed Bell was the first African American administrator within the entire SUNY system. Between 1967 and 1987, he held positions at New Paltz as Assistant Professor of Physical Education, Director of EOP, Director of the Minority Recruitment Program and several positions in Admissions, the last of which was Associate Dean. From 1987 to 1994, he served as Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs at SUNY System Administration.
On this program, Abigail Robin speaks with Ed Bell about his current career as a poet, writer and performer. His recently published book, Eeny Meeny Miney Mo, How to Lynch a Negro, is a collection of short stories and free-verse poems, revealing the collateral damage of lynching. He has also released a CD entitled Festival of Tears, a dramatic spoken presentation of poems brought together with spirituals, jazz and blues. Tune in to the show to hear Ed Bell read aloud from his published works.
