Web Addressing
Web site addresses may be printed in a number of different ways, depending on what server they reside on.
An address that does not have the "www" prefix should always be prefixed with http:// so that it is clear not to add "www" at the beginning of the address.
Example:
http://library.newpaltz.edu (the Sojourner Truth Library's Web address)
Sites on the main New Paltz server must be printed with the "www" prefix, but do not require "http://".
Example:
www.newpaltz.edu/academics
Please do not print addresses without the "www" prefix if they are on the main New Paltz server, as it will not pull up the proper site.
Example of what not to print:
newpaltz.edu/academics
Web site addresses are case sensitive, and are almost always lowercase. Before publicizing an address please check to make sure it works if there are capital letters in it, or check with the Director of Web Communication & Strategic Projects.
Do not print a slash at the end of the address unless a file name follows.
Example of what not to print:
www.newpaltz.edu/academics/
Acceptable:
www.newpaltz.edu/academics/page.html
If you will be doing advertisements and would like to include a different, unique, or shorter Web address, please Contact the Director to discuss your options.
