During Pay It Foward Day (October 22nd), NRHH encouraged the SUNY New Paltz campus to Pay It Forward, taking recognition to a new level. The night before, chapter members, hall government members and other members of campus came together to write positive chalk messages for fellow students around the campus. The next morning when students went to class they saw such words as: “To thine ownself be true, pay it forward, change starts with you.” “All you need is love!” and “Smiles are contagious, so spread some love.” Throughout the day Out of the Blues were available for students and faculty alike to fill out. The Fencing and Ultimate Frisbee team sponsored a Free Hugs campaign. And of course, people paid it forward! Doors were held open, dropped pencils picked up, lunches bought, rooms cleaned, rides given and days made. Later on in the evening a candlelight ceremony was held on the Student Union Concourse . Musical guest Chris Ortiz performed and Professor Kris Backhaus gave a speech disussing the Pay It Forward philosophy. Then one candle was light and two more lit, demonstrating the Pay It Forward philosophy.
