Jo Margaret Mano (Geography) gave an invited lecture, "To the Mountains: Exploring Historic Catskills Cartography" in Albany on Sept. 29 for the New York State Library's Public Program. She presented a paper, "Paradise Lost? Smart Growth, Takings and Oregon's Measure 37," and chaired a session at the Middle States Division of the Association of American Geographers annual meeting held at the Chautauqua Institution Oct. 14-15.

The Freshmen English Composition Program presents: Judith Sloan at 7 p.m. on Nov. 17, in Lecture Center 100. Author of "Crossing the BLVD: Strangers, Neighbors, Aliens in a New America," Sloan will discuss the interviews and experiences of the "largely invisible lives and voices of new immigrants and refugees in the borough of Queens." She will also explain the interviewing process she used in gathering the information for her book. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Howard Good (Communication & Media) has a commentary, "Board-Dom," in the Nov. 2, 2005, issue of Education Week, available online at www.edweek.org.

The Student Evaluation of Instruction (SEI) will be administered from Nov. 28 to Dec. 9. Packets with be delivered for your convenience Nov. 18 at the following locations:

  • Liberal Arts and Sciences in your individual departments
  • Education: in the mailroom in Old Main, room 106
  • Science and Engineering: in the Dean's Office
  • Business Administration: in the Dean's Office
  • Fine and Performing Arts: in the Dean's Office
  • Honors and Interdisciplinary courses: in the department or
  • Dean's office that faculty members are from.

The dates for administering SEI's are Nov. 28 - Dec. 9. Each packet will contain instructions for the students. Each bin will provide Faculty Instructions for Administering the SEI.

Alumni

Maria Zemantauski, '83 a well-known Flamenco guitarist, will be the featured performer on the Nov. 20 concert sponsored by the Newburgh Chamber Music Series. She will be joined by the Hudson Valley Philharmonic String Quartet. The concert is at 3 p.m. at the Calvary Presbyterian Church in Newburgh.
