Narcyz Roztocki (Business) and Jerry Fjermestad (New Jersey Institute of Technology) published an editorial, titled "Offshoring Without Profit or the New Global Model?" in the Journal of Information Science and Technology, Vol. 2 No. 2, pp. 1-4. Howard Good (Communication & Media) has two poems, "Wasted" and "After the War," in the fall 2005 issue of the ezine Slow Trains, available online at www.slowtrains.com. Four faculty (Geography) had papers published in the recent edition of the "Middle States Geographer": Linda Greenow, "When Growth was Good: Images of Prosperity in Mid- Twentieth Century America"; Lawrence A. McGlinn, "Utility- Scale Wind Power in the Northeastern United States: A Consideration of Present and Future Locations"; John I. Sharp, "The Political Geography of Gambling in the Midwest"; and Jo Margaret Mano, "Mapping Legends: Major Andre and Rip Van Winkle." Presentations & ExhibitionsYoav Kaddar (Theatre Arts) recently returned from Germany where he was the guest of the city of Borken. This is his second visit to Germany, which is part of the ongoing project that the German government, cities and towns have under taken in reuniting and re-establishing their connections to Jewish communities that fled or were destroyed during WWII. Kaddar was invited to present an evening of dance titled "He Is Just Away: An Evening of Solo Dances by Yoav Kaddar." His visit also included a workshop and lectures on Israeli Folk Dance to local high school students, as well as discussions with faculty and administration on future plans to strengthen the schools' education component on Jewish culture and modern Israel. Awards, Honors, Appointments and RecognitionJacqueline Ahl's (English) one-act play "Fear Itself" has been selected from more than 300 submissions from five countries as the winner of the Brevard Little Theatre New Play Competition (one-act category) for 2005. Ahl's work will be produced on May 12, 2006 at Brevard College, NC, and will be added to the permanent performance repertoire of BLT To Go, the organization's traveling theatre group. In addition to receiving accommodations for two nights, Ahl will be presented with a check by the mayor at a luncheon attended by the BLT selection committee, president and board members. The name of the author and title of the winning script will also be engraved on a permanent plaque displayed in the BLT lobby. For more information, visit www.brevardlittletheatre.com. Other Interesting EndeavorsThe Chemistry Department is once again hosting a National Chemistry Week event for kids. A number of hands-on activities related to the National Chemistry Week theme "The Joy of Toys" are planned. Participants can try out things that fizz, shrink, glow, launch and inflate, all involving chemicals and chemical reactions. There will also be snacks and door prizes. The activities are designed for 8-12 year olds, but they will be fun and safe for everyone. Students in the NewsDeborah Wing-Sproul '05 (MFA Printmaking) has been selected as a finalist in the Artist Feature Section for the Catskill Mountain Region Guide magazine. The September issue of the magazine shows examples of her work (pp. 46-47). Wing-Sproul works in several disciplines, including video, printmaking, performance and sculpture. |
