PublicationsHoward Good (Communication and Media) has had his book, "The Theory of Oz: Rediscovering the Aims of Education," published by Rowman & Littlefield Education. Good's book explores the metaphoric connections between education goals and the four travelers in "The Wizard of Oz." Good examines the desires of Scarecrow, Tin Man, Cowardly Lion and Dorothy, and suggests activities to help teachers in developing in their students a love of learning, empathy, moral courage and a sense of belonging. Gil Brenner (Geological Sciences, Emeritus) co-authored a publication of the Geological Survey of New Jersey, State of New New Jersey: Open-File, Geologic Map OFM 65, August-2005, titled: "Bedrock Geology of the South Amboy Quadrangle, Middlesex and Monmouth Counties, New Jersey." Dr. Brenner dated numerous surface and subsurface samples, from this project, of Cretaceous Age, 135 to 65 million years old, using microscopic spores and pollen. Ron Knapp (Geography, Emeritus) is the author of "Chinese Houses: The Architectural Heritage of a Nation" (Tuttle 2005), a coffee-table-type book focusing on his 20 'favorite' old Chinese houses. Two lengthy introductions lead to the individual essays on each house, placing each in their cultural, historical and geographic contexts. Large format color photographs by A. Chester Ong complement some of Knapp's own photographs taken over the past 40 years, archival photographs and art work. Jonathan Spence, President of the American Historical Association for 2004-2005, contributed a foreword. Hassan A. Kalhor and Mohammad R. Zunoubi (Electrical and Computer Engineering) published a paper, titled "Mitigation of Power Frequency Fields by Proper Choice of Line Configuration and Shielding" in Electromagnetics, Vol. 25, No. 3, pp. 231-243, April 2005. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts at Bard College. Kaddar also returned to the University of Wyoming summer dance festival as faculty and choreographer for the 9th consecutive summer. Sharon Matola, the leading force for conservation in Central America, will give a presentation "High Voltage Conservation Action" at 8 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 27, in the Coykendall Science Building Auditorium. From her jungle office in Belize, she has accomplished over the past 30 years an amazing array of success stories, from Harpy Eagle restoration projects (the largest and most powerful eagle in the world), to jaguar and tapir habitat protection. She has fought relentlessly to stop a government dam project that would flood the pristine Macal Valley, the last remaining wild habitat for macaws. She is also the founder and Director of the Belize Zoo and operates the Tropical Education.
