
Presentations & ExhibitionsJo Margaret Mano (Geography) presented a paper, "Mapping the Journey: Catskills Tourism from Stagecoach to Automobile," on June 10 at the Conference on New York History held at Syracuse University. Mano currently has an exhibit, "Celebrating the Catskills," at the Sojourner Truth Library running through the end of August, open during library hours. The exhibit features maps, pamphlets, books and ephemera illustrating the many facets of the Catskills and is a result of a collaborative project between Mano and New Paltz geography alum Peter Manning '90. William Fall (Geography) presented a lecture to the Annual Meeting of the Canal Zone Study Group in Boxborough, Mass., on May 28. He discussed the reconstruction of the history of the Panama Canal Zone through the use of technical drawings and postcards from the area. His book of vintage postcards from the Canal Zone is soon to be published in Panama. Ron Knapp (Geography Emeritus) gave a public lecture, "Principles of Feng Shui and Chinese Domestic Architecture," at the Peabody Essex Museum, Salem, Mass., on July 9 as part of the "Celebrate Yin Yu Tang: Culture of Chinese Art and Home" program. Jack Wade (Theatre Arts) is the lighting designer for Arthur Miller's "All My Sons" at the Shadowland Theatre in Ellenville. The Shadowland production features Richard Benjamin and Paula Prentiss in the leading roles and plays through Aug. 7. PublicationsMatthias Bernet (Geology) co-authored a paper with Kari Bassett (University of Canterbury) titled "Provenance Analysis By Single-quartz-graim SEM-CL/Optical Microscopy," which was published in the May issue of the Journal of Sedimentary Research. Irving Weiss (English Emeritus) has just published Infrapics:Xerolage 35 (Xexoxial Editions, 2005), a collection of visual poems. Five mounted visual poems were part of the exhibit Vispo at Durban Segnini Gallery, Miami, Fla., March 5-26; his "Sixty by Tens" appeared in Big Birthday Book, A Festschrift for Richard Kostelanetz's 60th (or 65th) Year (Libros de Barba, 2005); his poem "Homage to Pablo Neruda" was published in Fragments/Fragmentos (Heterogenesis, 2004) and also in the accompanying video contribution to the DVD "Homage." Russell Hilliard's (Music Therapy) book, "Hospice and Palliative Care Music Therapy: A Guide to Program Development and Clinical Care," was published by Jeffrey Books in July 2005. Athletic AccoladesArthur Hoener (Art, Graphic Design) participated in the Empire State Games cycling events July 27-31. He was awarded fourth place in the 45+ time trial and 15th in the 45+ road race. Stuart Robinson (Director of Athletics) coached the Empire State Games Hudson Valley open men's soccer team to a bronze medal on July 31. In all three of the years Robinson has coached the team, he has earned his squad a medal: silver in 2003, bronze in 2004 and bronze in 2005. Antonio Bonilla (EOP) competed in the Empire State Games Hudson Valley open men's volleyball competition. The team finished fourth, just missing the medals; however, in all his years of competition, Bonilla has earned gold and silver representing the New York City squad, bronze for the Hudson Valley and a gold as the coach for the Hudson Valley open women's squad.
