
What's New?EOP program receives $4,000 grant from The Sallie Mae FundThe Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) has received a grant of $4,000 from The Sallie Mae Fund to be used for College Algebra Extended, a project of EOP that brings students up to speed in college algebra, and enables them to qualify for majors in math, science and business. College Algebra Extended is part of EOP's comprehensive academic support program. The goal of the course is to help students attain a math placement level, which qualifies them for pre-calculus and the majors described above. The Educational Opportunity Program at New Paltz is a national award-winning program that ranks in the top three opportunity programs statewide in terms of student retention and graduation rates. It is also the largest per-capita program in the 64-campus SUNY system .SUNY enters boats at the New Paltz RegattaFor the first time since the revival of the New Paltz Regatta in 2001, SUNY New Paltz entered a homemade boat in the competition. The team included Matt Cook '98 (Secondary Education); Johnny Coxum (Campus Police); Derek Faulhaber (senior in psychology); captain Glenn Geher (Psychology); Peter Malejs (graduate student, humanistic/multicultural education); and Matt Roy (Athletics, Intermurals and Recreation) who proudly wore the hawk mascot outfit. Brian Obach (Sociology) assisted with the boat trailer and Yoni Schwartz (Political Science) provided integral logistical support. The team finished second place overall. The "Shupe of Fools" boat was captained by Dale Sutton (a.k.a. Captain Capsize) with a crew made up of Scott Williams, Nick Flood, Donna Wiltsie, Robert Guidi, James Colantuani, Stephen Rider and Michael Brilla. ![]() |
