May 2005 Commencement highlights Aidan Quinn, an accomplished actor in theater, movies and television and resident of Ulster County, received an Honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts at this year's undergraduate commencement exercises on Sunday, May 22.  College President Steven Poskanzer honored both State Sen. John Bonacic (left) and State Assemblyman Kevin Cahill ('77) with a Presidential Medal at the undergraduate May Commencement Ceremony for their continued support and advocacy for SUNY New Paltz.  Jan Zlotnik Schmidt (English) received a medal for her recent appointment to the highest rank that can be achieved by a SUNY educator, that of Distinguished Teaching Professor.  The May valedictorian, Jean Elaine Thompson (standing, center), received her bachelor's degree in art education.  The May salutatorian, Casey Lynn Doty, received her bachelor's degree in mathematics with certification to teach middle or high school math.  Antonio L. Bonilla (EOP) received his master's of professional studies in Friday evening's graduate ceremony. Visit the Commencement Web site in the coming weeks to see additional highlights! Honorary degree suggestions?Periodically, the campus is allowed to confer honorary degrees upon distinguished individuals during college ceremonies such as commencement. As part of that process, the college is soliciting names of potential recipients for future commencements from faculty and staff.
