What's New?Two special guests to be honored at graduation with Presidential MedalsCollege President Steven Poskanzer will honor both State Sen. John Bonacic and State Assemblyman Kevin Cahill ('77) with a Presidential Medal at the undergraduate May Commencement Ceremony for their continued support and advocacy for SUNY New Paltz. Recently, the college received a $10 million special legislative appropriation to fund the renovation of the Student Union Building. Bonacic and Cahill lead the effort for this appropriation, which is the largest of its kind in the college's history. The Presidential Medal, which was designed by Myra Mimlitsch- Gray (Art), is bestowed upon recipients whose accomplishments and contributions to the college are significant. The first Presidential Medal was awarded during the May 1996 Commencement Ceremonies to the late Selma Field. Field had served as College Council chair for 11 years. Subsequent recipients have been Vice President for Academic Affairs Emeritus, William W. Vasse (1999), Vice President for Student Affairs Emerita, Barbara Geider (2002), and Executive Assistant to the President Emerita, Gail Gallerie (2003).
