
Presentations & ExhibitionsHamid Azari-Rad (Economics) recently presented the paper, "Prevailing Wage Laws and the Long-run Black Employment Trends in the Construction Industry (1900-1990)," co-authored with Peter Philips (University of Utah), at the annual conference of the Allied Social Science Association. Reva Wolf (Art History) presented the paper, "Self and Other," at the symposium, "The Modern Self-Portrait: Before and After Warhol," held March 12 at the National Gallery of Scotland in Edinburgh. The symposium was organized to coincide with the exhibition, "Andy Warhol: Self-Portraits," currently on view at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art. PublicationsEdward Lundergan (Music) has an article, "Modal Symmetry and Textual Symbolism in the Credo of the Stravinsky Mass," published in the March 2005 issue of the Choral Journal. Mohammad R. Zunoubi and Hassan A. Kalhors (Electrical and Computer Engineering), C. D. Taylor (Mississippi State University) and A. A. Kishk (University of Mississippi) published a paper titled "Electromagnetic Modeling of 2D Electronic Mode-Stirred Reverberating Chambers for Electromagnetic Compatibility and Interference Analysis and Design" in the International Journal of RF and Microwave Engineering, p.p. 197-202, March 2005. Eve Waltermaurer (Sociology) published a paper, "Measuring Intimate Partner Violence: You May Only Get What You Ask For," in the Journal of Interpersonal Violence, V. 20, April, 2005. Awards, Honors, Appointments and RecognitionMore than 1,000 students signed up for Skip-a-Dinner held on March 5-7, and more than $3,600 was raised for the hungry. All money raised is given to UNICEF, Trinity Lutheran Church Soup Kitchen on New York City's Lower East Side and Habitat for Humanity. There were 108 tablers from 10 campus organizations participating, including: Alpha Epsilon Phi; Alpha Kappa Phi; Kappa Delta Phi, N.A.S.; Mu Sigma Upsilon; Tau Kappa Epsilon; Associate; Greek Council; Deyo Residence Hall; DuBois Hall Government; Habitat for Humanity; and the Student Christian Center. Campus Auxiliary Services staff contributing to the effort included: Steve Deutsch (Executive Director); Bruce DuBois (Assistant Director); Ralph Perez- Rogers (Hasbrouck Food Service Director); and Nancy Richardson and Chris LaFave (ID/Meal Plan). Victor deMunck (Anthropology) has been awarded a $4,000 grant by the National Science Foundation for his project, titled "REU Supplement to RUI: Cultural Models of Gender Relations in the US and Russia - 2." This project will support undergraduate fieldwork and data analysis in Russia, as well as in a new field site in Japan. Joel Neuman (Business) has been awarded a $14,989 grant by the Veterans Administration (VA) for his project, titled "VA Research Project - Division 11." This project involves interviews with veterans and VA staff in three VA medical centers in Network 11. The interviews will identify the causes of conflict and strategies for the management/prevention of such behavior. Athletic Accolades
New Paltz junior Joanna Masterson (Canandaigua) competed in three events at the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championship at Hope College in Holland, Mich., on March 11-13. Masterson swam in the 50, 100 and 200-yard freestyle events against the top swimmers in Division III. She earned the right to compete at the national meet after winning the 50, 100 and 200-yard freestyle events with NCAA qualifying times at the SUNYAC Championship in February. Masterson began the threeday meet by finishing 22nd among a field of 48 competitors in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of :24.60. The next day, she swam in the 200-yard freestyle and came in 20th among 32 competitors with a time of 1:57.39. On the third and final day of the meet, Masterson finished 27th out of 38 swimmers in the 100 freestyle with a time of :53.91. The top 16 swimmers in each event advanced to the finals with the top eight earning All-America honors. It was Masterson's first appearance at the NCAA Division III National Championship.
