Reva Wolf (Art History) participated in the panel "Interviewing Andy: A Panel Discussion on Andy Warhol," held March 1 at the Kitchen (a center for the visual and performing arts in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan). The panel was organized and moderated by poet Kenneth Goldsmith. Other participants were biographer Victor Bockris, writer and photographer Gretchen Berg, and Warhol associate Billy Name. "Interviewing Andy" was made possible by the support of Sotheby’s.

Publications

Narcyz Roztocki (Business) and Kaori Takeuchi (MBA Student, Business) presented and published a paper, titled "Information Technology Investment Announcements and the Stock Price Reaction: The Case of Japan," in the proceeding of the 2005 American Society of Business and Behavioral Sciences (ASBBS) Conference, Las Vegas, NV, Feb. 24-27, 2005, pp. 1652-1658. Attendance of this conference was supported through the UUP Professional Development Award.

Alumni in the News

Karen Ann Chaffee (English ’91,’94g ) with her daughters, Chelsea H. Chaffee J.D.(U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit) and Sydney M. Chaffee (Sarah Lawrence College ’05) presented their paper, "27 Naked Barbies: Feminism/Femininity of a Mother and her Daughters" at the annual Women's Studies Conference at Sarah Lawrence College on March 5. This presentation focused on the points of connection and contention in generational feminism.

Awards, Honors, Appointments and Recognition

Alan Dunefsky, who has worked in the Department of Athletics for 33 years, has announced his retirement for June. Following a mandatory 30-day break, he will join the Development team half time as assistant for special projects. He will work on Foundation fund raising events, including the golf tournament and gala, and will organize alumni participation in the fall "landmark" reunions. Dunefsky, a 1969 alumnus, joined the New Paltz staff in 1972, while pursuing his master’s degree in biology. He served in many capacities, most recently as director of recreational sports. He coached women’s volleyball for 11 years and women’s softball for 14. His list of service accomplishments includes chairing the Professional Staff Council.

Pamela St. John (Chemistry) has been awarded a $35,000 grant by the American Chemical Society-Petroleum Research Fund for her project, titled, "Dynamics of DNA Hybridization." This proposal will measure dynamics of DNA hybridization. Reaction rates for hybridization of DNA to DNA and DNA to alternative nucleic acids will be studied as well as DNA hybridization on surfaces.

Mary Hafeli (Associate Dean, Fine and Performing Arts) is the 2005 recipient of the Marilyn Zurmuehlen Award for Research in Art Education. This national award is given every two years by the National Art Education Association (NAEA) for excellence in studio-based research and mentoring of beginning professionals in the field of art education. The award was presented at the NAEA conference in Boston in March.
