Presentations & ExhibitionsSarah Wyman (English) presented a paper, "Tom Feelings' Middle Passage Images as a Tool for Teaching Beloved," at the 10th International American Women Writers of Color Conference in Baltimore, MD, Nov. 21, 2004. Phyllis Sturm (Computer Services) recently performed a comedy routine about her experiences with Breast Cancer, titled "Can't Catch a Break" at the Oncology Support Group staff meeting at Benedictine Hospital's Laughter Night and the Sweet Adeline, women's chorus, retreat in Kingston. Teri Roiger (Music) and John Menegon (Music) will present "Two To Tango," a bass and voice duo, at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8, at McKenna Theatre. They will be presenting original compositions from their new recording projects, as well as jazz standards. Tickets are $10 (general), $8 (faculty/staff), $4 (students/seniors). Mark Dziuba (Music) will also be joining them on a few numbers. Rimer Cardillo (Art) has been invited to exhibit his works at the 5th International Art Biennial "Barro de América" in Maracaibo, Venezuela. "Birds of Clay, Oil and Ashes," an installation which deals with the concept of the north and south habitats of the Americas, has 135 silk-screens printed with clay, oil and ashes, aand large wall built entirely in paper with images of birds from our area. The opening took place on Dec. 7 at the Cultural Center Lía Bermúdez and will be in exhibition until March 30. Reva Wolf (Art History) presented the paper, "Warhol's Commissioned Portraits: Convention as Controversy," at the College Art Association's annual national conference held in Atlanta, Ga., Feb. 16-19. Her paper was in the panel, "Fraught with Peril? Portrait Commissions and Contemporary Art," organized by Brandon Brame Fortune, a curator at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C. Students in the NewsJoanne Veras and Asia Thompson were featured in the March 2005 issue of Suede Magazine. Veras and Thompson were part of an article displaying the beautiful women of Greek Life. The article was titled "Mighty Aphrodite." Suede Magazine is a celebration of unique fashion and extraordinary style. |
