What's New?Engineering Day kiosks open to students, faculty and staffThe 3rd Annual SUNY New Paltz Engineering Day Conference for middle and high school students will be held on campus Wednesday, Feb. 23. Students, faculty and staff at New Paltz are invited to visit the Engineering Day kiosks from 1- 2 p.m. in the Student Union Building Multi-Purpose Room. The snow date is Thursday, Feb. 24. The "New Faces of Engineering," a continuing theme for this year's celebration, will provide an opportunity for more than 500 area students to discover the wonders and excitement a career in engineering may offer. The day's activities will focus on providing students and teachers from the local region with a dynamic and interactive day in the company of professional engineers. Due to increasing interest, the number of schools requesting to participate continues to go up. Due to space limitations, the college had to turn away many students wishing to participate in this year's event. Opportunities to participate in "hands-on" mechanical and electrical engineering workshops, discussions with engineering faculty and students, and the chance to attend the keynote presentation will afford these students a truly exciting educational day. The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering thanks all the members of the Engineering Advisory Board for their tremendous and enthusiastic contributions of time and effort preparing for this celebration here on campus. Records and Registration announces new procedureThe Office of Records and Registration has announced that a new procedure is being implemented. Undergraduates who have applied for graduation in May 2005 will be notified through their New Paltz e-mail account if deficient in degree requirements. The student's advisor of record will receive an e-mailed copy of the notice. College policy states, "New Paltz students are REQUIRED to check their campus e-mail and to use it for ALL campus business." Despite this, and since it is a new process, Records and Registration has asked that everyone help to inform the undergraduate students, especially if he or she has filed for graduation. Please announce the notification process in class and post the flyers distributed throughout the campus community. Thank you. New York Times database on STL Web siteThe college now has a subscription to the Historical New York Times, a searchable online database that provides access to the New York Times from 1851-2001. It can be accessed from the Sojourner Truth Library Web site. For more information, contact Athena Nazario at x3710 or nazarioa@newpaltz.edu. |
