
PublicationsNarcyz Roztocki (Business) and Heinz Roland Weistoffer (Virginia Commonwealth University) presented and published a paper, titled "A Framework for Evaluating Information Technology Investments Using Value Chain Analysis," in the Proceeding of the 2004 Annual Decision Sciences Institute (DSI) Meeting, Boston, MA, Nov. 20-23, 2004, pp. 3061-3066. Margaret Wade-Lewis (Chair, Black Studies; Director, Linguistics Program) authored the article, "A Bridge Over Many Waters: Mark Hanna Watkins: Linguistic Anthropologist," in Dialectical Anthropology 28: 147-202, 2004. It is part of a longterm study of the contributions of Black linguists to American linguistic history. Tom Meyer's (Secondary Education) essay, "Once I Almost Died in a Canoe: Knocking out the Story," was published in The Quarterly, a journal of the National Writing Project, 26(3); 32- 34; Fall, 2004. Presentations & ExhibitionsRon Knapp (Geography, Emeritus) gave a public lecture, "Preserving China's Old Dwellings," at China Institute, New York City, on Feb. 8. Mary E. Fakler (English) presented a paper on online collaborative work in the composition classroom, at the 2005 Hawaii International Conference on Arts and Humanities in January. The research discussed in "Voices Merged in Collaborated Conversation: The Peer Critiquing Computer Project" centers on the exchange and critique of essays by students in six courses in two colleges -- SUNY New Paltz and Marist College. The trip was made possible through a United University Professions Professional Development Award and a Liberal Arts & Sceinces Professional Development Award. Awards, Honors, Appointments and RecognitionChui-chun Lee (Library Director) has been awarded a $11,256.00 grant by the New York State Education Department for her project, titled "Coordinated Collection Development Aid Application, 2004-05 (CCDA)." The objective of this project is to enhance and facilitate materials acquisition for regional resource sharing. Lee Bernstein (History) has been awarded a $70,602 grant by Ulster BOCES/US Department of Ed for his project, titled "In Pursuit of Freedom: The American Journey." This project assists elementary and middle level teachers with building content knowledge in American history that has its roots in the Hudson Valley, refreshes their knowledge of local resources, and provides professional development in document-based history lessons. Beverly Brumm, who relocated to Chicago following her retirement from the Theatre Department, has directed a production of the play "Expecting Isabel." The play, a comedy by Lisa Loomer, is a midwest premiere, produced by Riverdell Theater Ensemble. The production will run through March 5 at Gallery 37 Storefront Theatre in The Chicago Loop. Alumni in the NewsLee Cutler (Humanistic/Multicultural Education, '88) and English teacher at Nanuet Middle School has just been reelected as the president of the Hudson/Catskill Central Labor Council. This council represents all AFL-CIO affiliated unions in Orange and Sullivan counties. Cutler also co-chairs the newly formed NYSUT statewide task force on passing school budgets. Other Interesting EndeavorsBille Brown, playwright, actor and former artist in residence at SUNY New Paltz, donated a copy of "Aladdin," his new English pantomime, to the Sojourner Truth Library. First produced at the Old Vic Theatre in London this holiday season, "Aladdin" featured Ian McKellan as Dame Widow Twankey. John Napier designed the sets and Paul Mathias directed. Brown is a former member of the Royal Shakespeare Company and has appeared in films such as "Oscar and Lucinda" and "The Dish." Queensland Theatre Company has named a theatre in his honor -- the Bille Brown Studio. |
