The Office of the Vice President for Administration is pleased to announce the appointment of Cathy M. Beard as assistant vice president of human resources.
Beard comes to New Paltz with a wealth of experience in public sector human resources administration. Most recently, Beard held the position of assistant director of employee relations at SUNY System Administration in Albany and from 1999 to 2003 was manager of employee and labor relations at SUNY Binghamton.
In addition to 15 years of experience in human resources management, Beard has a number of professional and community affiliations. She has worked as a mentor, served as regional vice president for the New York State Public Employers Labor Relations Association and senator for the SUNY Faculty Senate.
Beard received her bachelor's degree in business administration from Empire State College and her master's degree in public administration from SUNY Binghamton. Welcome, Cathy!
The Office of the Provost has announced the appointment of Mary Beth Collier as the new executive assistant to the provost.
Collier comes to New Paltz from Mount St. Mary College, where she served as the associate dean of students from 1995 until her appointment at New Paltz. She also served as the director of counseling and career development at Mount St. Mary.
Collier is entirely SUNY educated. She received her master's degree in counseling and her certificate of advanced studies in personnel services from SUNY Albany, and her undergraduate degree in anthropology from SUNY Potsdam. She is currently a doctoral student in educational administration and policy studies, with a concentration in higher education, at SUNY Albany. She lives in the City of Newburgh with her family. The Division for Student Affairs has announced the appointment of two new staff members.
Suzanne Lowry, the new director of Student Activities, comes to New Paltz from Columbia University Medical School, where she was an activities coordinator for student affairs. She was also an assistant director of student activities for several years at Iona College, where she specialized in programming, Greek affairs and leadership development. Lowry earned a master's degree in mass communication, with a concentration in public relations, from Iona College in 2002.
Beth King joins the Career Resource Center staff as the internship and service learning coordinator. In this role, her focus will be creating new and maintaining existing employer relationships regionally and in the New York City metropolitan area, working with academic departments to facilitate placement of students into internships. For the last six years, King has worked as the extern coordinator and placement counselor at the Culinary Institute of America. She is currently completing her master's degree in psychology at New Paltz.
