What's New?New Web site up and runningThe new SUNY New Paltz Web site (www.newpaltz.edu) launched on Monday, Jan. 10 includes the following features: an A-Z Index, an online Visitors Guide, and a new resource section for parents. The A-Z Index provides an alphabetical listing of the most common features accessed on the college's Web site. The Index also provides an online submission form if you would like to suggest another term for inclusion in that list. The online Visitors Guide will assist off-campus visitors, and will be a useful site for you to promote if you host events that off-campus people will attend. It provides information on traveling to New Paltz, parking on campus, maps, area information, attractions on- and offcampus, contact information, and more. Resources for Parents provides information for events and contacts on campus and how to send goodie packs to students. The home page continues to have quick access to frequently used features in the new "On Campus" section, such as NPmail, GroupWise, my.newpaltz.edu, Blackboard, and the Library. There are a few minor changes in wording that may affect how you reach certain features on the Web site. The "Campus Services" category has been changed to "Departments." "Calendars, News & Sports" has been split into different areas. In the new "News & Events" section on the home page, replacing the former "news ticker," there are links to "more news" and "more events" to reach everything that was previously available under "Calendars, News & Sports." Free lecture series to focus on biodiversityA free lecture series titled "Act Locally to Defend Biodiversity Globally" will be held on Thursday evenings in February in Lecture Center, Room 102. Sponsored by the Shawangunk Ridge Biodiversity Partnership, the series features leading experts in fire management, organic nutrition, land-use planning, bird conservation and other fields. Composed of non-profit and public agencies, the Shawangunk Ridge Biodiversity Partnership, is dedicated to protecting the sensitive wildlife habitat and other natural resources of the Shawangunk Mountains. Informed by field research and scientific analysis, partners manage more than 40,000 protected acres of the Shawangunks, provide environmental education, and work with local communities to preserve open space on the slopes of the ridge. The lectures will be held on Feb. 3, 10, 17 and 24. All lectures will begin at 7 p.m. For a complete series listing, visit http://mohonkpreserve.org/events. |
