
PublicationsNarcyz Roztocki (Business) and Heinz Roland Weistoffer (Virginia Commonwealth University) presented and published a paper, titled "The Impact of Information Technology Investments and Cost Management Systems on Stock Price Reaction," at the 2004 European Conference on Information Technology Evaluation (ECITE 2004), Amsterdam, Netherlands, Nov. 11-12, 2004, pp 525-529. Russell Hilliard's (Music Therapy) study, "Hospice Administrators' Knowledge of Music Therapy: A Comparative Analysis of Surveys," was published in the journal, Music Therapy Perspectives, v. 22 #2, 104-108 (Winter, 2004). Howard Good (Communication & Media) has an essay, "The Board Member's Soundtrack," in the January 2005 issue of American School Board Journal. The essay draws on lines from movies to advise board members how to act in difficult times. Gil Brenner (Geology Emeritus) published an article, titled "The Feldspar Group: the Gift of Life," in The Wire Artist Magazine, January 2005. Anne R. Roschelle (Chair, Sociology) published an article, titled "Tourism, Gender, and Globalization: Tourism in Cuba During the Special Period," in the journal Transnational Law & Contemporary Social Problems with her colleagues Elisa Facio (University of Colorado-Boulder) and Maura Toro- Morn (Illinois State University). Diego Dominici (Mathematics) and Charles Knessl (University of Illinois at Chicago) published a paper, titled "Geometrical Optics Approach to Markov-Modulated Fluid Models," in "Studies in Applied Mathematics," Volume 114, Issue 1, pp. 45-93, January 2005. Awards, Honors, Appointments and RecognitionThe Campus Auxiliary Services (CAS) Board of Directors has awarded 10 scholarships of $575 each to the following students: Nellie Afshar, Dobbs Ferry; Rahul Babu, New Paltz; Stephanie Becak, Bethpage; Francis Cruz, Yonkers; Nancy Gill, Broad Channel; Carol Lee, Franklin Square; Kimberly Newman, West Babylon; Lisbel Rosario, Yonkers; Amy Schoonover, Chenango Bridge; and Dantong Zhu, New Paltz. The applicants were asked to write an essay explaining why working in Auxiliary Services has been a positive experience. The applicants' supervisors provided comments on the employees' work attitude and reliability. All full-time students receiving paychecks from CAS, Sodexho Dining Services or Follett Higher Education Group were eligible. Alumni in the NewsDavid Rossitter (Communication and Media '02) is now account associate, client development in the Movies and Music division of the NPD Group. NPD is a leading syndicated and custom research supplier to a number of industries. Rossitter was formerly with Tribune Co. and The Hallmark Channel. Jim Lawyer (Humanistic/Multicultural Education '88), executive director of Crystal Run Village in Middletown, has been awarded the Frank W. Masterson Distinguished Service Award in recognition of his contribution to the establishment and delivery of developmental disability and mental health services to the people of Orange County. Edward J. Renehan, Jr. (Political Science, '80) has a new book coming out this June, "Dark Master of Finance: The Misunderstood Life of Jay Gould, King of the Robber Barons," to be published by Basic Books, a division of the Perseus Book Group. |
