Awards, Honors, Appointments and Recognition

Professors Ahmed Ebrahim and Jun Lin (School of Business) received promotion to the rank of assistant professor. Ebrahim successfully completed the Doctor of Philosophy at the State University of New Jersey, Rutgers, with a major in management. Lin successfully completed all requirements for the degree Doctor of Philosophy at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, with a major in the field of business administration.

Kurt Daw (Dean, Fine and Performing Arts) is serving on a curriculum committee of academic and community experts for the Poughkeepsie Institute’s “Art in Poughkeepsie” project. The group helped to develop a 14-week study by 15 students from the five local colleges - SUNY New Paltz, The Culinary Institute of America, Dutchess Community College, Marist College and Vassar College. The findings show how art is creating fragile local economic activity, even as it attempts to infuse a new hope into schools - uncovering the surprising links between local economic and educational development. By fostering community research and community action in an urban environment, the Poughkeepsie Institute is the only collaboration of colleges in America with a city as the lead partner.

Other Interesting Endeavors

Several members of the Instructional Media Services (IMS) staff attended the New York State Contract Trade Show at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy on Nov. 3. At the event, IMS entered a raffle for a wooden lectern worth approximately $1,800 from Marshall Furniture. They won the raffle and the lectern was delivered last week for use in our classrooms. Congratulations!
