
What's New?College Council has three new membersTwo new members have recently been appointed to the New Paltz College Council. Robert DiCarlo replaces George Morton, whose term has expired. DiCarlo, of Stony Brook, is a 1979 SUNY New Paltz political science graduate, who served in the State Senate from 1993 to 1997. He currently runs a government relations and corporate consulting firm based on Long Island. Michael Catalinotto Sr., an attorney from Saugerties, replaces Joe Vanacore, whose term also expired. Catalinotto’s degrees are from NYU and Columbia. In addition to his legal practice, he is a prominent member of the Board of Trustees of Kingston Hospital and the Kingston Regional Health Care Systems. This year’s student member of the College Council is Victoria Passarella, who is from Franklin Square, and is majoring in Women’s Studies/ Psychology. The College Council is a group of citizens appointed by the Governor to provide advice and feedback to the president and the vice presidents. New Outdoor Pursuits program brings mountain bikes to campusThe Athletics Department has announced the arrival of 10 mountain bikes that are now available at the Elting Gymnasium through its new Outdoor Pursuits program. Outdoor Pursuits are outdoor programs that enable participants to take advantage of the recreational opportunities available in the Hudson Valley. Activities include hiking, cycling, horseback riding, kayaking, canoeing, rock climbing, ropes courses, orienteering, snowboarding and skiing. The activities focus on adventure, environmental awareness, education, personal development, social interaction and fun. The bicycles can be rented to faculty and staff for $10 with valid SUNY New Paltz identification. For more information on rental procedures for the mountain bikes, visit www.newpaltz.edu/recreation/outdoor.html. It is mandatory that participants sign an insurance waiver before renting the bikes. Holiday Open House to be Dec. 4, staff Awards Luncheon set for Dec. 10Watch for invitations to the annual Holiday Open House for faculty and professional staff or the Awards Luncheon for classified staff (including those on Research Foundation Grants and University Police). President Steven Poskanzer will host the 19th Annual Awards Luncheon, sponsored by Sodexho, at noon on Friday, Dec. 10, in the Student Union Building. The Open House, hosted by the Poskanzer family, will be held at their home on Saturday, Dec. 4. Invitations will request your presence from 2-4 p.m. or 4-6 p.m. |
