Arnie Bernardini retires

Arnold (Arnie) Bernardini (Assistant Vice President of Planning and Construction) has announced his retirement after more than 20 years serving the New Paltz campus.

Bernardini said that when he arrived at New Paltz in 1984, he primarily concentrated on improvements to the existing physical plant which, according to him, were sorely in need of repair. His attention to the campus ultimately resulted in a favorable acknowledgement of New Paltz in the 1986 Middle States Review, where they cited Bernardini for his improvement efforts.

During his tenure, Bernardini has overseen the construction of numerous projects across campus including, but not limited to: the Terrace Restaurant; the temporary Air Structure; the Louis and Mildred Resnick Engineering Hall; the Fine Arts Building; the renovation of Hopfer Admissions and Alumni Center; Esopus and Lenape halls; the rehabilitation of both the Psychological Health and Counseling Center and the van den Berg Learning Center; the Athletic and Wellness Center; and the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art. In addition, he was the lead in the cleanup and relocation of classroom space during the 1991 PCB accident, which affected five buildings and ultimately led to the total rehabilitation of the Coykendall Science Building. Also, Bernardini was responsible for overseeing the redesign of all of the major outdoor plazas on campus.

Good luck, Arnie, and thank you for your dedicated service!
